DEBATE: Republican candidates for 13th district hope to gain support at Champaign forum 2/20/26
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The final day to cast your vote in the primary elections is just weeks away, and Monday night, two Republican candidates were trying to gain support for their run representing the 13th congressional district. Republican candidates Joshua Loyd and Jeff Wilson used the forum to let voters in Champaign know where they stand on issues like renewable energy, education and agriculture, among others. And they acknowledged the need to get people voting during the historically low turnout primary season.

Jeff Wilson of Mahomet didn’t exactly feel like an up-and-coming member of society after graduating high school in the California bay area in the early ‘70s.
Coming from a broken home, the then-18-year-old was kicked out of the house by his stepdad, stayed with a friend, enrolled in junior college and worked part time washing dishes at a Mexican restaurant.
“I walked into work one day and my boss told me I was fired,” Wilson said. “I have no idea why. I had hair down to my shoulders, but I didn’t take drugs.”
